I submitted some observations on the present state and requirements of those Institutions; and respecting Public Education in this Community.

I have now to report that I have also given close attention to the sanitary condition of this city and Colony. On my voyage from England, I perused Mr Chadwick's able and exhaustive report, and the other voluminous official documents already published on this subject. And, during the last three weeks, I have conferred very fully upon it with the Executive Council, and with the chief officers of the Government. Above all, I have visited personally every part of this city and its neighbourhood, penetrating into even the foul and squalid lanes and alleys of the Chinese quarter.
